REST Client: Local, VPN & CORS-Restricted APIs (Browser Extension)

By default, the UtiliStudio REST Client sends requests directly from your browser so that APIs reachable from your machine or corporate VPN work immediately. However, standard web browsers block direct requests when a target API:

  • Rejects automatic browser CORS preflight (OPTIONS) requests triggered by custom headers (such as Authorization or custom API headers), or
  • Runs on localhost, a private network, or an internal VPN hostname over http:// without returning Access-Control-Allow-Origin headers.

To test these APIs on desktop browsers without modifying backend server settings, install the UtiliStudio Local & CORS Network Bridge extension:

  1. Download utilistudio-extension.zip and extract it to a folder on your computer.
  2. Open your browser's Extensions page (chrome://extensions, edge://extensions, or brave://extensions).
  3. Enable Developer mode (toggle in the top-right corner).
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json, then refresh UtiliStudio.

Once installed, whenever a direct browser request is blocked by CORS or Mixed Content, UtiliStudio automatically relays the request locally through the extension on your machine—keeping 100% of your traffic inside your local/VPN network.
